Orientation

New SAO/CAO

Whether you're new to Nunavut or stepping into the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) role for the first time, there's a lot to learn. Every community is unique, and understanding municipal responsibilities, legislation, council relationships, and the realities of working in Nunavut can feel overwhelming. NAM offers personalized one-on-one orientations to help you understand your role, navigate common challenges, and connect with the resources and people who can support you. You don't have to figure everything out on your own. Contact NAM to arrange an orientation and start building the knowledge, confidence, and connections you need to succeed.

New Council Member

Whether you're newly elected to Council or looking to strengthen your understanding of municipal governance, NAM offers both group and individual orientations to help you succeed in your role. Working with your Mayor and Senior Administrative Officer (SAO), we tailor each orientation to your Council's needs, priorities, and available time. Orientations explore the roles and responsibilities of Council, working relationships, decision-making, and the legislation that guides municipal government in Nunavut. Group orientations will be offered from November 2027 through March 2028, with individual orientation opportunities available to support Councillors who cannot attend a group session or join Council at a later date.
